More SDR

20 Sep 2023 - Radio and all that

So here’s a brief respite from all the coding doohickies, I’m upgrading my SDR setup a bit. It’s eventually going to include a program for simulating the tones of a 56k modem, so sooner or later I will be able to broadcast images and other non-text data over the air.

If you own a GMRS radio near the upper latitudes of the american midwest, tune in to channel 22. It’s going to be running slightly out-of-band as to not interfere with proper communication. 2-way radios will still be able to transmit and receive just fine while I’m broadcasting data, but if you are using the scan function your radio will most likely detect that it is receiving something on channel 22, or quite possibly channel 21 depending on the distance from my setup. Other than that it’s just a standard 56k broadcast that you can decode with your computer if it’s properly interfaced with your radio.

I’ll post new pictures of my setup soon. I think some of the hamops from the old website have been reading this. Hope you guys get a kick out of what I’ve done with the thing.

And now back to all the coding doohickies. You should be seeing random population at work, if not, then Jekyll hates my code. Which I can’t blame it for that, I hate my code too. Other than that there isn’t much to talk about.

I’ll have more next week. Be seeing you guys then.
